Our Commitment to Rural Development
At Interoc, we believe that rural development is essential for the progress of all of Latin America. Our work goes beyond offering agricultural solutions: we seek to support farmers of all sizes—large, medium, and small—so they can produce more, grow sustainably, and improve their quality of life.
We understand that behind every crop there are families, communities, and life projects. Therefore, our commitment to rural development is based on three principles that guide all our actions:
Productivity that Transforms Lives
We promote technologies, seeds, and crop protection solutions that enable farmers to achieve better yields, care for their soils, and ensure more stable harvests. Increased productivity means higher incomes, more opportunities, and greater well-being for rural families. When a farmer thrives, their community also prospers.
Through the project “Inclusive Businesses Loreto”Interoc Peru is driving a profound transformation in the region's agriculture, promoting the use of technology and innovation to sustainably increase maize productivity. This effort has enabled quadruple the returns and generate a direct impact on the quality of life of thousands of farmers, demonstrating that it is possible to build harvests that transform lives.
Inspired by the corporate purpose of “Improving the Quality of Life and Creating a Better World”Interoc assembled an interdisciplinary team to design a concrete response to an urgent need: optimizing the production of yellow dent corn in Loreto. Through technological solutions, close support, and a vision of inclusive development, the company aims to ensure that every farmer has access to tools that drive their progress.
In Loreto, there are approximately 40 hectares of yellow dent corn, where over 90% of farmers did not use hybrid seeds, severely limiting productivity. Furthermore, the region has some of the highest rates of poverty and extreme poverty in the country. Given this context, Interoc committed to promoting technological change as a viable path to improving the income and future of farming families.
To that end, the project seeks to facilitate corn technology packages which include technical advice, financial support, on-site training and the use of the Atlas 777 hybrid seed together with Interoc's phytosanitary program. The results have been positive: increased yields, more efficient farming practices, and communities improving towards sustainable well-being. Thus, Interoc reaffirms its conviction that promoting good practices and high yields not only improves harvests but also drives harvests that transform lives.
Sustainable Community Development
Our approach extends beyond the fields. We support projects that strengthen local capacities, improve education, promote environmental stewardship, and foster circular economies. We back initiatives that enable rural communities to develop holistically and sustainably, creating value that transcends agriculture.
At Interoc, we understand that our impact extends beyond the fields and production operations. Therefore, we have incorporated socio-environmental management as an essential part of our business model, promoting projects that strengthen local capacities, foster environmental stewardship, and encourage the transition to a circular economy. The reuse of materials from our industrial activity—especially wooden pallets and plastic sheets—has become an opportunity to generate environmental, social, and economic value, aligned with our corporate purpose of improving quality of life and building a better world.
This commitment is reflected in various initiatives developed in collaboration with educational communities and social organizations in Ecuador. In schools such as Galo Plaza Lasso and Modesto Alvarado, we have transformed discarded pallets into useful structures that contribute to creating safer, more functional, and more suitable learning environments for children.
Similarly, in Buijo, Samborondón, we collaborate with the Alma Animal Foundation to transform these materials into cozy little houses that provide comfort to rescued dogs and cats while they await a family. These actions not only optimize the use of resources but also strengthen the autonomy, security, and well-being of those who directly benefit.
Each of these initiatives is made possible by the active participation of managers, families, volunteers, and community leaders, who enthusiastically join this shared commitment to sustainability. At Interoc, we work with dedication and passion, recognizing that environmental responsibility is a shared task and that small changes can have a significant impact. Thus, we continue to be an agent of change that drives circular economies, promotes community development, and contributes to building more resilient communities and a healthier environment for all.
Inclusion for the small producer
We work to ensure that small-scale farmers have access to tools that have traditionally been out of their reach: high-yield seeds, technical support, responsible financing, marketing networks, and modern agronomic practices. We firmly believe that productive inclusion is the foundation for reducing inequalities and generating equitable growth.
Strategic Alliance with Incofin Investment Management (Belgium)
In 2023, INTEROC SA (Ecuador) entered into a strategic alliance with Incofin Investment Management, backed by USD 6 million in financing from the Agri-Finance Liquidity Facility and the Fairtrade Access Fund. This financial support is aimed at boosting sales of high-yield seeds—prioritizing small-scale farmers—and acquiring the necessary machinery to improve the genetic and sanitary quality of our seeds. Through this, we seek to enhance field productivity and ensure more equitable access to top-quality agricultural inputs.
This alliance not only strengthens our operational capacity but also reflects our firm commitment to responsible, inclusive, and sustainable agriculture: we are expanding our inclusive business programs to positively impact both the environment and rural communities. By joining Incofin's investment portfolio—an international firm with extensive experience and a strong focus on impact investing—we are aligning our operations with global standards for sustainable development, social and environmental compliance, and equitable access to opportunities for small-scale producers.
With this step, we reaffirm our vision of contributing to the sustainable development of agriculture in Ecuador and the region, facilitating access for small farmers to high-quality seeds and appropriate technologies to improve yields and competitiveness. Furthermore, we strengthen an agricultural value chain that promotes responsible practices, social inclusion, and resilience, thus contributing to our corporate mission of generating sustainable value for the community, the country, and the planet.
